I feel like my summer has slipped away, busy as?I have been with some monumental shifts in?my family. Even Klout suggested I needed a vacation. (It?s not even a remote possibility this year, but thanks for the suggestion.) This is when I find it a good time to dig into those photos I have yet to scrap about vacations past. As I go through the photos and relive the experience, I feel as if I am on vacation, albeit virtually.
Last year I returned for the first time ever to the state of my birth, Alaska. My Dad was still?alive as I prepared for my trip and I peppered him with questions about his experience, especially aboard float planes. I wanted to see the glaciers and it required being on a float plane, something I was excited to do. The tour took us to Taku Lodge and I expected it to be rather a touristy type of excursion. I was quite delighted that it was not. Here is the journaling I included on my digital scrapbooking layout:
When I booked this excursion I had no idea it would be so incredible. I only wanted to stay to take some photographs, the lunch I expected to be slopped together for tourists. What a surprise to find that the salmon was just caught in the river? nearby, the fresh homemade herb biscuits were incredible as was the coleslaw and baked beans. Everything epitomized the best of home cooking: simple, fresh, delicious. I live in an area of California where food and wine is considered some of the best in the world, so when I travel, I never expect food to be all that fantastic. However, the Taku Lodge provided an amazing feast topped with the best ever ginger cookies. I was sorely tempted to pack a few in my pocket for the flight back but we were all warned that food must remain inside the lodge in case of bears. Ah, Alaska.
SIDEBAR: Food was on everyone?s mind, the bees sampled the flowers at the lodge while the hummingbirds contemplated the guests who hovered about their feeders vying for the perfect shot.
Digital scrapbooking is a great way to record your family history, but it?s also a way to relax and unwind as you reexamine the journeys you have traveled during your life. Your photos will bring back your memories and your mind will return to the experience. Savor your life. Spend some time with your photographs today and feel refreshed.
